Apple’s Downtime is a great feature for limiting when you, or a dependent can use an iOS device and it’s part of the new digital wellbeing features that iOS 12.0 brought with it in September. With the release of the first iOS 12.2 beta earlier this week, it’s becoming clear that Apple will be expending Downtime to allow users to select individual days when setting Downtime limits.
In its current form, Downtime works every day of the week, but with iOS 12.2 installed, users have noticed that Downtime schedules can be configured separately for different days. That’s perfect for setting different times during weekends, for example.
Anyone with iOS 12.2 beta 1 installed can test this out by opening up the Settings app and navigating to Screen Time > Downtime. Users may then select whether the feature will be applied “Every Day” or if they want to “Customize Days,” with the latter allowing them to set custom timings for each day in the week.
This is still the first beta release of iOS 12.2, and Apple isn’t at all beyond adding features to betas and then removing them before the final release is made available to the public. With that in mind, we wouldn’t want to suggest that this feature will definitely be available to all soon, but we don’t imagine this being the kind of feature to go AWOL before launch.
Since Apple made the initial iOS 12.2 beta available to developers a few days ago, a number of things have been noted, including a new Apple News Magazines subscription service, and support for HomeKit-compatible TVs such as those announced during CS 2019 earlier this month.
