It seems that Apple’s release of iOS 12 has instantly resonated with iPhone and iPad owners. According to Mixpanel, iOS 12 is now installed on more devices than iOS 11 and accounts for 46.83-percent of the iOS device user base.
Apple has yet to officially provide any updates of an “official” capacity as far as the iOS 12 adoption rate goes, which means that Mixpanel’s data is really all that we have at the current time to go with.
The data shows that iOS 12 is now found on approximately 46.83-percent of iOS devices in the public domain with iOS 11 sitting on 46.21-percent of iPhones and iPads. Interestingly, the statistics also show that 6.96-percent of devices are running iOS 10 or older. It would be extremely interesting to know the motivation for those individuals staying on those firmware versions.
It seems that these statistics show that users have adopted iOS 12 slightly faster than they did with iOS 11. Once iOS 11 was released, in the two weeks that followed users had installed iOS 11 on approximately 45.31-percent of devices, which shows that iOS 12 has a slightly faster adoption rate this time around. That shouldn’t necessarily surprise anyone given how valuable iOS 12 is for users.
Apple may have tried to insist that iOS 12 is all about progression and stabilization but it’s quite clear that it actually has a lot of new features and functionality in place that would delight iPhone and iPad owners.
It’s clear that new features such as the wonderfully received Screen Time, Siri Shortcuts, and the glorious Memoji feature have driven people into the arms of iOS 12. It also includes frameworks and capabilities like ARKit 2 which immediately means that consumers can benefit from enhanced augmented reality apps that are pushed to the App Store by third-party developers. All-in-all, in spite of the few problems that it offers, iOS 12 is clearly a well-adopted firmware release which will continue to be installed on devices around the world resulting in the install base growing.
It’ll be extremely interesting to see how Apple’s numbers compare with Mixpanel once the Cupertino-based company updates its App Store support page which also outlines what percentage of devices are using the most recent major version of iOS.
