Looking for some news on iOS 12 jailbreak? Developer and security researcher Umang Raghuvanshi has poured some additional positivity as far as an iOS 12 jailbreak is concerned. The Indian developer, who is known for his tweak Libertas, has recently taken to Twitter with a two-part tweet to confirm that he is able to jailbreak iOS 12.x using his own vulnerabilities.
One of the most difficult things to do in the jailbreak community as an outsider is to piece together all of the information in order to come up with a 360-degree view of the playing field.
Multiple developers and security researchers are continuously working on Apple’s iOS platform in order to find weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and then trying to exploit them. Some of those individuals work for professional companies and are looking for a payday from companies like Apple, whereas others, such as Umang Raghuvanshi, have a genuine interest in finding vulnerabilities which can be exploited and then turned into a jailbreak which can be released into the public domain.
According to the two-part tweet, things could be looking good for an iOS 12.1 jailbreak:
Status on my vulnerabilities and a potential iOS 12.x jailbreak:
Bugs are alive and well and I’m able to successfully jailbreak my A11 and A10 devices. Can’t say about the new ones since they aren’t available in India yet. I’m looking at a release timeline for iOS 12.1 [1/2]
He then continued with the second part of the tweet:
…but there’s no reason to upgrade your devices just yet if you’re already jailbroken or would rather stay on iOS 11. Also, in other news, I still work on Libertas occasionally, but am planning to hand it to someone more dedicated to tweak development. [2/2]
So it seems that Raghuvanshi’s bugs are still present in the latest iOS 12.1 beta and that he is able to use those bugs to liberate the devices that he owns which are running Apple’s A11 and A10 processor. The work is as yet untested on Apple’s iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, all of which run Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip, but we can only keep our fingers crossed that things will work as expected.
If so, then we should be able to expect a public release of an iOS 12.1 jailbreak when Apple drops the final version – presuming nothing is patched by the company in the meantime.
We will keep you posted.
