It’s an amazing feeling when hard work and dedication pays off. And that is exactly what has happened in the ever-evolving jailbreak community with unc0ver developer Pwn20wnd taking to Twitter to confirm that tweaks are now playing nicely with Cydia Substrate in an iOS 12 environment.
We have been privileged to be privy to a number of updates coming out of the jailbreak community recently. Most recently, the co-founder of unc0ver, Sam Binger, showed us a teasing video of certain parts of Cydia functioning an iOS 12 device.
And whilst that was enough to raise excitement levels, it did also raise questions about when we would see the next stage of progression. Now, thanks to Pwn20wnd’s announcement, we can safely say that the progression is here and has come in the form of tweaks working nicely with Substrate:
Successfully got tweaks running with Cydia Substrate on iOS 12 ;).
Of course, a tweet of that nature is naturally going to open up the floodgates and inspire a ton of follow-up questions from community members demanding answers and wanting updates. In response to one such question, the hacker and developer suggested that he is “tempted” to release a new public beta (presumably of unc0ver) complete with an updated Cydia and Cydia Substrate offering compatibility with tweak injection on iOS 12.
Not just that, he also went on to confirm complete progress update on upcoming version of unc0ver complete with Cydia and Cydia Substrate support ahead of first public beta release:
It’s an extremely positive step forward to learn that the unc0ver team has made this progress and overcome an extremely important hurdle as it heads toward its goal of developing and releasing a functional and stable jailbreak solution for iOS 12.x.x devices. However, it’s also extremely impressive to see that Pwn20wnd is on the fence about issuing another public beta of unc0ver 3.0.0 with this functionality built-in.
As much as we’d like to see this in the hands on the public, we’d rather it was thoroughly tested and made as stable as possible before that happens. After all, when things don’t go entirely according to the plan history has already shown us that the jailbreak community can be an extremely negative and bilious place to be.
For now, until the release, let’s all ensure that we are getting behind the hackers and developers of these tools to offer support and show that their time and dedication towards creating a usable solution is appreciated by all.
