iOS 12, iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 and iOS 12.1.2 compatible Cydia for unc0ver jailbreak has been demoed on video. Here are the details on it.
The world is currently filled with jailbreaking news and the community could not be happier! After a flurry of iOS 12-centric exploits being shared documented, and published into the public domain, Sam Binger of unc0ver fame has taken to Twitter to share a teasing video of Cydia up and running on iOS 12.
One of the most exciting – and, perhaps infuriating for some people – parts of the jailbreaking world is that each and every jailbreak needs to be formed from, and needs to consume, multiple different parts before it can be offered to the public.
We’re starting to find ourselves in a position whereby we are seeing a lot of positivity coming through in the form of exploits and people like Jake James working on something that could potentially be issued to the public. However, this iOS 12 Cydia tease is also a small step in the right direction.
Binger has taken to Twitter to upload a video which shows the bare bones of Cydia working installed to a jailbroken iOS 12 device. He confirms in that tweet that only minimal stuff is working and that there is still a lot of work to do:
well minimal stuff works – still need to do a lot but I have a shell, Cydia works and substrate mostly works. Don’t hold your breath but it’s progressing.
The accompanying video shows Cydia loading and refreshing. It shows Binger navigating into a product page and viewing information about that package via Search and it shows that package being installed with the familiar black screen and the “Return to Cydia” button. Pwn20wnd has also tweeted to say that “Cydia is looking good on iOS 12” but confirmed via Reddit that it will remain in private distribution within the team until CoreTreust workarounds are in place and the sandbox patches are fixed.
As it stands, we really have no idea when a functional and public-facing iOS 12 jailbreak might actually drop. However, we keep seeing overly positive announcements and suggestions that we the community is definitely moving in the right direction to push this forward. As always, we will continue to give you the latest information and let you know as soon as anything developers in this space.
