Here’s iOS 11 GM / beta 11 download and expected release date info for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users that we know about.
Apple’s iOS 11 platform isn’t even in the hands of the general public yet and it’s already breaking records. Developers and public testers are used to receiving semi-regular updates of versions of iOS in a pre-release state, but iOS 11 has broken through any previous records set by already having 10 developer seeds issued – which is most for any major or minor iOS release. We now expect the next release to actually be the Golden Master (GM) seed instead of beta 11, and it will likely be released immediately after the September 12 iPhone 8 keynote.
Developers and public testers who have iOS 11 installed on their device will likely attest to the fact that it is pretty much ready to be used on a day-to-day basis on an every day iPhone or iPad. The sheer number and frequency of the pre-release seeds over the last three months have meant that Apple’s engineers have been able to polish iOS 11 to the extent that it’s likely going to be a global hit when it gets into the hands of consumers later this month.
With developer beta 10 and public beta 9 seeds recently landing on devices across the world, it’s our belief that Apple has simply run out of time after officially announcing the iPhone 8 media event for this coming September 12. If that assumption turns out to be accurate then we can expect the next release to come immediately after that event in the form of a highly polished GM seed which will likely have the same build number as the final version of iOS 11 released not long after. With iPhone 7s/7s Plus and iPhone 8 expecting to ship on September 22, Apple needs enough time to actually get the production build onto devices that will ultimately ship to consumers from its Chinese factories.
The iOS 11 journey has been an extremely impressive one to date. After initially unveiling iOS 11 at this year’s WWDC keynote, Apple has been on a fast-paced mission to get the platform ready for its millions of users around the world. We already know that the OS will come pre-installed on iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and iPhone 8 out-of-the-box, but the firmware will also be available on a mass scale to all compatible 64-bit devices in circulation. It’s for that reason that the best-ever version of iOS to date really needs to be in pristine condition offering the kind of experience which the company is expected and known for.
