A new video has emerged purporting to show iOS 10.1 / 10.1.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 7.
iPhone and iPad owners will be well aware of the fact that Apple has relatively recently released iOS 10.1 to introduce the new Camera Portrait mode as well as patch a number of critical software bugs, but it also seems that it’s actually possible to liberate Apple’s platform in order to run Cydia and other jailbreak extensions directly on the device.
The individual responsible for uploading the video to YouTube, going under the Twitter handle @ijapija00, claims that the shown off jailbreak is based on the usage of one single exploit, and also takes the opportunity to actually show off a working tweak, built by the same developer, called Amalthea.
The interesting thing with this video is that it was actually created more than a week ago, on October 24th, with the individual in question choosing to show it off now. He also says that it works on iOS 10.1.1 as well.
The uploader also caveats the video, and in fact the whole jailbreak experience, with a number of points. Firstly, he makes it clear that Cydia Substrate has been heavily patched with a new library that comes equipped with task loading any installed tweaks into the system. This is one is of the main reasons that he has chosen not to release the jailbreak to the public as it relies on a library not owned by him and not made available for distribution.
Another reason for it not being released to the public appears to be the fact that he simply doesn’t want to be responsible for offering support for the jailbreak And of course, he wants no liability for any devices that are affected should the worst occur.
Finally, and probably the most reasonable excuse for not actually releasing, is that it just isn’t stable in its current form. To that end, it seems that the solution is mostly being used for private testing of tweaks and research.
While the developer may not be in a position to release, it’s still extremely warming to know that iOS 10.1, and iOS 10.1.1 for that matter, is capable of being jailbroken.
