The Apple Vision Pro is understandably the talk of the town right now and it’s likely to remain that way for some time. But that isn’t what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants and he’s been quick to remind everyone that the Apple Vision Pro isn’t the only spatial computer you can buy.
In a new video showing off what the Quest 3 can do, Zuck said that he expected the Meta headset to be the best value but for the Apple Vision Pro to be the better product. Having used one, he now believes that the Quest 3 is the better product “period.”
While Zuck agrees that the Apple Vision Pro’s dual 4K displays are “very nice,” the Quest 3 is still better for most people.
“I’m pretty surprised that Quest is so much better for the vast majority of things that people use these headsets for, with that price differential,” said Zuckerberg. “The future is not yet written. […] The best way to predict the future is to invent it,” he added.
There’s also the matter of price, of course. The Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 while the Meta Quest 3 costs just $499.
The Internet however has different take on this. As soon as Zuck posted this video, people on various different social media platforms started comparing it with Steve Ballmer’s infamous moment from 2007 where he laughed on the iPhone’s price when comparing it with Windows Mobile phones of the time:
"500 dollars? Fully subsidized? With a plan? I said that is the most expensive phone in the world. And it doesn't appeal to business customers because it doesn't have a keyboard. Which makes it not a very good email machine."
