Instagram has enabled its Notes feature for people in Europe and Japan while also expanding it to those who are in the United States.
The feature was previously only available to a limited number of people.
The Notes feature is one that allows people to post 60-character messages that then appear at the top of their friends’ Inboxes. People can then reply, with messages appearing as direct messages after that.
We’re beginning to roll out Notes, a new way to share your thoughts and see what your friends are up to. Notes are short posts of up to 60 characters using just text and emojis. To leave a note, go to the top of your inbox, select the followers you follow back or people on your Close Friends list, and your note will appear at the top of their inbox for 24 hours. Replies to notes will arrive as DMs in your inbox.
Instagram’s rollout to international users confirms that the feature was a success for those who tested it. The social network says that “people liked having a lightweight, easy way to share what’s on their mind and start conversations.”
Notes is another example of Instagram stretching beyond its original focus on photos, with the company continuing to test new features that it believes will keep people in the app for longer.
