But while Instagram purists feared the worst when Facebook made its notable move, Zuckerberg has stuck to his promise and allowed Instagram to retain its identity. The social company has made some fairly significant moves in the mobile industry recently, and while the likes of Facebook Home and Chat Heads have been considered pivotal, Instagram still very much feels like the app it was before the newly-found corporation intervened.

The version number of Instagram for iOS now clocks in at 4.0.2, and the new landscape mode is applicable to both stills and the recently added video-capturing capabilities. Although most front-facing cameras play a very poor second place to the main rear snappers, Instagram now supports video capture on the lens you see every time you interact with your device.

If you wish to check out the new version, we've provided a direct link below. We'd like to hope that Facebook has plans to bring said features to Android very soon, but with no official word at this point in time, only those wielding an iOS device can currently participate.

Founded by Burbn Inc., Instagram has been a meteoric success in the mobile industry, and discounting Rovio’s Angry Birds, is the purest example of how fairly simple idea can transcend into a multi billion dollar company. Although Facebook’s motives behind the acquisition of Instagram have been presented as progressive, it’s clear to us techies that the world’s foremost social network had tried to topple its keenest rival in photo sharing before taking the rather defeatist stance and buying Instagram out.
