After a seemingly eternal wait, Instagram has finally reached the Google Play Store, more details after the jump!
Having seen off many similar socio-image type apps, Instagram has become the most frequented snap sharing app on iOS, with close to 30 million iPhone users currently engaged. Whilst there have been many similar copycat apps trying to stake a claim for Instagram’s Android market, none have managed to stick, leaving the tens of millions of Droidsters in anxious wait for the real thing.
It has been a long time coming, and if the hype from Instagram’s developers is anything to go by, the Android version will be even better than the iPhone iteration. Compatibility has been a major issue for certain app makers, since there’s such a wide range of Android devices available on the market, so we wait with baited breath to see whether or not this release proceeds without hiccup.
If you’ve never come into contact with Instagram, it provides a fantastic way for users to share all kinds of images – whether it’s family, landscape, dinner or pets – with whoever wishes to see them; think of it as the Twitter of images.
As well as simply sharing, users can edit and add effects to create something truly unique, and the service has brought about some fantastic, eye-catching, awe-inspiring images out of the most seemingly uninteresting things.
With Android now added to the fray, Instagram’s user base could quickly double or even treble if the demand matches that of its iOS counterpart. Given that there are many tens of millions more Android users than those running Apple’s iOS, we fully expect to see the numbers soar.
