Now that iOS 7 is a week old, it’s fair to say that most of our favorite and most used apps have received their big update that brings all of the iOS 7 look and feel to the apps that we spend the most of our time in. We’ve had Reeder 2, Twitter and Facebook updates along with a whole raft of others, but there are still some holdouts that we’re getting a little impatient for.
One of those apps is Instagram, but thankfully we won’t need to wait much longer after the Facebook-owned company said on its official blog that the photo-based social network will be receiving an iOS 7 update today.
Instagram 4.2 should be rolling onto the App Store the world over throughout the next few hours, so we shouldn’t have too long to wait. If you’ve got automatic updates turned on, then the chances are you won’t even know that it’s downloaded at all!
Along with the minor change that sees user avatars now appear as rounded icons in the typical iOS 7 fashion, users will also notice that their photos now go edge-to-edge, meaning they see larger photos across the board. That goes for videos too, in case you were wondering. Just as importantly, Instagram’s blog post says that the content will also now be of a higher resolution too, which means everything should look nicer as well as bigger. Win!
The folks at Instagram say that they have been focusing on making the whole experience more streamlined, and until we get our hands on the new Instagram update ourselves, we’ll just have to take their word for it.
Instagram, along with Tweetbot, is perhaps the app we were most looking forward to seeing an iOS 7 update for, so we’re pleased to see it arriving within a week, even if things were cut a little tight. Given the fact that developers have had betas of iOS 7 for months, we do wonder why some are struggling to get updates out. But then again, we’re not developers now, are we?
