If you sat and watched the Apple event live from the Californian Theatre and convinced yourself that you would be getting your hands on the white variant of the newly announced iPad mini, then buckle yourself down and prepare to wait for a few extra weeks before it finally gets delivered. Apple were widely expected to introduce the iPad mini to the world during the event, and they didn’t disappoint by showing off the 7.9-inch tablet that will be be available in black or white starting on Friday November 2nd.
Although the new iPad mini Wi-Fi variant will start shipping a week from today, initial pre-orders went live this morning via the various Apple websites in supported territories. It shouldn’t come as any surprise by now that demand was extremely high for the new mid-range product, with pre-order stock of the white Wi-Fi model almost immediately being depleted. The 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models of the device are all still available for pre-ordering, but showing as coming with a two week delivery time.
At the time of writing the 16GB black iPad mini has also proven to be extremely popular with early adopters, commanding the same two week delivery time. The 32GB and 64GB models are still available for pre-order with a shipping date of November 2nd. The same situation has been evident around most Apple Retail Stores with the white iPhone 5. Stores have a limited number of black iPhone 5 models available for purchase, but it has proved virtually impossible to locally source a white version of the device.
Gone are the days when Apple’s iOS devices only came in black and it seems that newer generation hardware like the iPhone 5 and new iPad models are going to be a lot more popular in the clinical white with the gorgeous silver rear. The popularity of the white iPad mini could be something to do with the fact that a number of users have complained about how easy it is to scratch the anodized aluminum on the black iPhone 5 model. The safest option seems to be to go with the white and silver model to avoid those unsightly scuff marks that seem so easy to cause. Besides, the white model just looks so much better in my humble opinion.
