Improve Picture Quality On iPod touch 4G With This Jailbreak Tweak

iPodtouch 720p

iPod 720p HD Camera can be found by searching on Cydia in the BigBoss repo. The utility is free of charge and simple to install. The developer behind the tweak describes the utility:

iPod 720p HD Camera is a camera app based on Apple’s AVCam sample. It enables [an] iPod Touch with camera to take photos with a 1280x960 resolution.

Other useful features are included with the tweak; for one, you can take pictures while in video recording mode. You can also switch the camera while in use although the quality suffers.

Once installed, use the camera as you normally would and snap a picture by taping on the ‘photo’ button. Change between exposure points by tapping on select areas in the preview pane. The photo will automatically be saved onto your Photo Album.

Currently, the latest generation iPod touch’s rear camera is nowhere near as advanced as those found on the iPhone. The new iPhone 4S sports an 8 megapixel camera, that’s 60 percent more pixels than the camera on my iPhone 4. Stills created using the iPod touch, on the other hand, contain a resolution of 960x720.

To put things in perspective, the original iPhone contained a 2-megapixel camera while the current iPod touch takes pictures with a 0.6 megapixel resolution. You won’t impress anyone with those specs. Luckily, the front camera, normally used for FaceTime, shares the iPhone 4 specs: a 640x480 standard VGA resolution.

Increase the resolution of your photos by downloading the tweak today. Don’t forget to let us know if you notice an improvement!

You will obviously need to have a jailbroken device to get it to work. For jailbreaking iOS 5 tethered using Redsn0w, you can follow our complete step by step guide posted here, or here if you want to use Sn0wbreeze on Windows. Since jailbreak on iOS 5 is currently limited to tethered boot only, you can install ‘SemiTether’ patch (instructions here) from Cydia to make your jailbreak semi-tethered on iOS 5. For those of you on iOS 5.0.1 can follow our instructions posted here on how to jailbreak using Redsn0w, or here using Ac1dSn0w (instructions with Ac1dSn0w Beta 2 here), or here using Sn0wbreeze.
