Accessory maker iLuv has launched its first HomeKit supported hardware with the Rainbow8 being a smart lightbulb system that takes advantage of Siri and WiFi connectivity to allow users to do all kinds of wonderful things involving light and colors.
If all this sounds similar to the Philips Hue system, that’s because it is, but with one vital difference – the iLuv kit does not need any kind of central hub in order to work.
One of the selling-points of Rainbow8 is the configuration which, according to iLuv, couldn’t get much easier. “All you have to do is simply plug in,” the firm claims, and the bulbs will immediately look for a device running the accompanying iOS app in the same vicinity. Once configuration is complete users can take advantage of schedules and geofencing to control their lighting automatically, all thanks to the wonder that is Apple HomeKit.
What sets the Rainbow8 apart from the previous Rainbow7 is the fact it includes over 16 million color options, has a dimming feature for those who want just a little light in their life, offers 800 lumens of brightness for those who want a lot, and will apparently last for a lifespan of over 20,000 hours.
This user friendly smart bulb is now brighter and longer lasting, saving you money in the long run. “iLuv is very proud of the direction we are going,” said Jason Park, head of marketing at iLuv.
The Rainbow8 is not our first smart product, but it is definitely one of our most impressive ones. Unlike most smart bulbs on the market, the Rainbow8 does not require a hub. All you have to do is simply plug in and get started. Once set up, users can do everything from schedule their lighting to setting triggers that control the lights based on their location. You can also create your own customized lighting scenes and use Siri to turn them on.
If all this sounds like something up your alley then the iLuv Rainbow8 can be picked up starting today for $49.99. Amazon has limited stock, with selected other retailers also said to be on board.
