I love to browse on my iPad right before bedtime. One of my nightly routines is to checkout the Top Charts in the iTunes Store. Some of the apps, I expect to see fairly often; Angry Birds anyone? Others are new ones I hadn’t heard of before. Today I came across iDashboard, resting snuggly in second place.
iDashboard is aimed mostly to those that like to organize all their information in one place. The app contains a variety of windows showing different types of information. It’s similar to Window’s Live Tiles, but on steroids:
Don’t just charge your iPad, transform your docking time into a one-stop multi-media information center – Keep an eye on your calendar, listen to your favorite playlist, and watch breaking news and sports. Your iDashboard is completely customizable for your social profiles, favorite blogs, family photos, and more.
The app is available for $1.99 and compatible with both iPad models. It’s easily customizable, allowing you to stream Facebook and Twitter accounts. A large number of RSS feeds are also supported, including those from USA Today, The NYTimes and ESPN.
Other features include an appointment planner with built-in alarm clock and a weather application. An embedded music player is also found in the application. The player has the same basic functions you would come to expect, but will allow you to play your personal playlists as well.
This may be worth checking out if you prefer a more organized gadget than most. I have a friend who organizes his apps on his iPad by color then by name. I have another friend who has more folders than apps. Personally, I’m comfortable with having my apps all over the place. The ones I use the most will be found right away, anyhow.
For those of you that would prefer a free option, you make want to checkout Flipboard for iPad and iPhone. It streams news, blogs (including Redmond Pie) and your Facebook and Twitter feeds as well, but in a magazine style format. You won’t have access to an embedded music player but thanks to multitasking, you can play songs directly from the Music app in the background.
