It has long since been known that Google could be offering as many as five new devices to its Nexus range this Fall, and seeing as Google brands rather than builds hardware, it teams up with reputable manufacturers in order to bring such new and exciting products to market. The Galaxy Nexus, for example, was made by South Korean mobile device glutton Samsung, while the much-lauded Nexus 7 tablet was hooked up thanks to the engineering work of ASUS.
November 5th has been mentioned as a potential release date for one, some, or all of the purported devices, and if a report by BGR is anything to go by, one of them could be produced by Taiwanese company HTC. Having released the quad-core One X earlier this year, HTC has lost a little ground in the Android stakes thanks, in part, to the Samsung Galaxy S III, and its announcement of Windows Phone 8 handsets pairing has arguably been the most exciting announcement from HTC in a long while.
Still, this apparent device, which is being billed as a phablet (phone functionality with a slate-like size), is said to be the rumored DROID Incredible X smartphone, which Google has been impressed enough to snap up and label under its roster. The Mountain View-based search giant is said to be in talks with HTC to produce the Google “Nexus 5″ smartphone, and it does look as though we could see a Nexus 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 making up the five devices, nicely completing the set alongside the original Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7.
The device is, at this point in time, thought to be running a marginally-improved iteration of Android Jelly Bean – 4.1.2 – which includes a number of the usual bug fixes, enhancements to Project Butter, and a more functional lock screen, among other little bits and pieces.
For the spec fanatics, the display looks as though it’ll hit the 5-inch mark, boasting a Full HD 1080p resolution and a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It’s said to be “super slim,” despite packing in a sizeable 2,500 mAh battery, to keep everything ticking over. As you’d expect, there’ll be 4G LTE data compatibility, and to cap things off nicely, a 12-megapixel camera.
