It seems that re-releasing existing smartphones with a beefed up set of specifications is all the rage these days. With rumors circulating that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to gain a bigger, badder brother in the Galaxy S5 Prime, some may have wondered what HTC was going to do about the idea that its main competition will have one-upped it once again. Increasingly, it’s looking like the answer to that is a predictable one, because rumors now also point to HTC having its own Prime in the works.
Called the HTC One M8 Prime, the new device will apparently follow the same blueprint as Samsung’s offering. That is, it’ll be a One M8 but, well, better. Rumors have also penciled in things like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM alongside a 5.5″ 1440×2560 display, and now it seems that the HTC One’s Duo Camera will also receive a slight tinkering along the way.
New images, and a 3D render, leaked by the notoriously reliable Evleaks, show what is claimed to be the unannounced One M8 Prime along with a suitably garish watermark that was added by the leaker himself. That’s not what is interesting though. What’s now catching eyes is the bright orange ring around the device’s camera, and not just because it’s orange.
Unlike the existing HTC One M8, this phantom product appears to have a camera that is raised above the rest of the phone’s rear shell. There is currently no real way of knowing what that actually means, or even whether these images are the real deal, but we’re going to quietly hope that the One M8 Prime will get nice bump in photo-shooting abilities as a result. Again, we’re just guessing here.
As is always the case with these things though, there needs to be some caution when making guesses based on leaked photos and renders. While Evleaks is notoriously accurate about these things, there’s always a first time for something to not be quite right. We’ve no reason to think this is that time, but then we’ve no real reason to think that it isn’t, either.
Time will tell.
