Taking photos with our iPhones has become something that we just don’t even think about anymore. With improvements to the Camera app mounting up with each and every new version of iOS, just letting the stock app take care of everything tends to work out pretty well for the most part. And in recent times, some pretty impressive images have come out of an iPhone and the standard Camera app.
If you want to though, you can get pretty granular about how your iPhone takes photos, and while the stock app is indeed capable of great things, the options available on the App Store can take things to another level.
With that in mind, photographer and all around ‘iPhoneography’ guy Jack Hollingsworth has put together a video that highlights what can be achieved using the manual controls afforded by a specialist iPhone camera app when trying to take photos of items that you are trying to sell on sites like eBay or Etsy.
The video and accompanying blog post highlight the kind of light you should use, the angle of approach you may wish to set your shots up at and something called an infinity curve which apparently makes your items look just lovely. In a world where thousands upon thousands of dollars can be spend on a high end camera kit, it’s always worth remembering that the iPhone is perfectly capable of most shots. True, it’s never going to replace a top of the line DSLR, but then most people don’t own one either. If you have never explored the capabilities of that camera that is stuck to the back of your iPhone, then now might be the time to try it out, and not just for selfies in mirrors.
