Removing animations from Apple’s iPhone and iOS combo isn’t a new thing. Plenty of jailbreakers have been doing this for a considerable amount of time in order to make the device feel faster. Now, thanks to a discovered bug, it’s possible to disable those animations without actually needing to be jailbroken or to install any additional software.
The first thing to note here is that Apple has these animations in place for a reason.
They are part and parcel of the OS and the underlying experience so you need to be aware that if you turn them off you may get snappier transitions and flows but you’ll also lose a part of what iOS actually is. If you’re happy with that, then you can find the steps below.
Step 1: Are you familiar with the “power off” screen on your iPhone? You know, the one that has the slide to power down interface? Well, you need to get to that screen either by pressing and holding the Power button on your device or by visiting the Shut Down option in Settings > General.
Step 2: When that screen arrives, slide the power down slider to what is approximately half way of its track and hold it there without leaving go. Now, give the Power button a short press.
Step 3: What you have actually done here is triggered the bug to occur and this will be represented by the screen going black for a very short period of time before it comes back. Long press the Power button on the device again to bring up the power down screen.
Step 4: Now, long press the Home button on the device until the screen and the interface of the device comes back. You will need to enter your passcode to gain access to the device.
Step 5: Now, you have access to the device again and the bug should be triggered. Use and interact with the phone and see how it feels to you. You should notice that without the animations in place the whole experience feels a lot faster.
Of course, it’s worth pointing out that we haven’t performed any miracle of magic here by giving the device more resources or power than it already had. It’s still the same hardware running the same software. However, what we have done is removed the animations which take time to run and give the illusion of processes slowing down or transitions taking longer than they should.
We’ve seen multiple jailbreak tweaks in the past which do exactly the same thing, which, in turn, instantly makes the device feel faster during use.
