Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has, like previous Galaxy S releases, been among the most popular Android devices of the year, and although the MWC showcasing was rather underwhelming, the actual products boasts a spectacular display and camera. If you’re in ownership of this device and wish to root, you can do so via the towelroot tool, and below, we’re going to run you through the steps to achieve root access.
Rooting does come with its fair share of risks, but by the same token, also allows you to get right into the guts of the Android firmware and manipulate the experience in a number of ways. Like the jailbreak of an iOS device, many find the prospect of rooting to be challenging, but if you’re rocking a Galaxy S5 and would like to dip your toe into the deep end, check the steps below.
Prerequisites:
- Your device must be running a variant of Android KitKat, which is the very latest released by Google. And all models of the Galaxy S5 are supported, ranging from the AT&T, Verizon versions to the international unlocked ones.
- Your device must be at least 50% charged.

How to root Samsung Galaxy S5 On Android KitKat:
Step 1: As ever, you’ll need to permit installation of APKs from unknown sources. To avail this, fire up the Settings app, and then tap Security and toggle Unknown Sources to On.
Step 2: Fire up your browser and point it to towelroot.com. Once there, tap on the big red icon found in the center.
Step 3: Download the APK, and once complete, open up the notification drawer by sliding down from the top of your device.
Step 4: Here, you’ll find that APK. Tap on it and install.
Step 5: Once it’s done, pull the notification menu down again, tap on the completed installation, which will, in turn, open up the app.
Step 6: Select "make it ra1n," and let towelroot work its magic.
Step 7: Voilà! You can now enjoy your rooted Samsung Galaxy S5!
