Plenty of us use our iPhone as our only camera, and with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being capable of hugely impressive photos there’s no reason to not use your iPhone to take photos.
If you have an Apple Watch then there is even more reason to use your iPhone’s camera because the new wearable can even be used to remotely activate the iPhone’s camera and then take photos – something that can be hugely useful if the shot you are trying to take doesn’t lend itself to having you press the shutter button. We’re thinking family portraits or shots that can’t realistically be taken while you hold your iPhone for whatever reason.
Using your Apple Watch to remotely take photos with an iPhone is dead simple, and everything you need comes pre-installed.
Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch to see your apps. Tap the Camera app icon.
Step 2: At this point the app will try to connect to your iPhone. If the camera app isn’t already open over there then the Apple Watch will automatically launch it remotely even if the iPhone is locked which, we have to admit, made us smile a little. It’s the little things in life!
Step 3: You’ll see a preview of what your iPhone’s camera is seeing right on your Apple Watch and you can take snaps by tapping the shutter button in the center of the screen. If you would prefer a countdown then you can press the countdown button instead, giving you a three second delay before the photo is taken.
Step 4: The photo you just took is automatically saved to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. You can view previously taken images by tapping the preview button on the left side of the screen, too.
And that’s how you take photos using your Apple Watch. We told you it was easy!
