If you’ve always been interested in the idea of installing old software like Windows 95 or Windows 98 on your iOS device, here’s a video tutorial on how you can do so.
Whatever your opinion on jailbreaking may be, there’s no doubting the possibilities that can arise after one has been applied to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Sure, breaching Apple’s digital wall does have its downsides, but if you’re a hardened geek, you’ll want to push things to the limits, and if installing Windows 95 or Windows 98 floats your boat, you can now install it provided you’ve jailbroken first.
Seeing older editions of Windows running on iOS devices is nothing particularly new, and not long ago, Windows 98 was demonstrated on both the iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus. But while it’s great to see hackers showcasing their skills and endeavor, it’s rare that a how-to tutorial is posted online for everybody to follow. However, YouTuber Jules Gerard has done exactly that, and if you’re a gamer, then there’s more good news.
Those old, retro classics that you’d thought you’d lost inside that dusty, PC tower sitting in the basement can now be relived on your jailbroken iOS device. But before you get carried away in a rush of nostalgic excitement, it should be made clear that getting things up and running is not going to be a one-click job.
The likes of Cydia make the installation of tweaks a streamlined, pleasurable experience, but as you can probably imagine, installing a new operating system is a tad more involved process. As such, you may want to grab a cup of coffee for the nigh-on 20-minute video, and ensure that you’re relaxed enough to deal with what could turn out to be a lengthy, cumbersome process.
Still, nothing worth doing tends to be easy, and if you have the spare time and patience – a little bit of familiarity and previous experience in customizing OSes wouldn’t hurt, either – then go ahead and check out the video below.
Since this is a jailbreak-only opportunity, you will need to be running iOS 8.1.2 or earlier, unless you happen to still be running iOS 8.2 beta 2, which can also be jailbroken using TaiG.
Anyway, have a little look at the video, and as ever, do leave your thoughts and comments below.
