If there’s one thing we are suckers for here at RP, it’s a spot of nostalgia and the Nintendo DS is one of those things that really floats our boat. Long before there was any consideration of adding 3D to Nintendo’s mobile games, the thought of having two screens and a stylus was radical enough to get our attention, and the platform did well for years to come. If you still have your Nintendo DS around, then there are some brilliant games to play. Some of the very best, in fact.
Unfortunately, not all of us have our Nintendo DS hardware laying around, so the thought of being able to play Nintendo DS games on our iPhones sounds like a great idea. You’ll need to be jailbroken, which could be bad news for some as the latest publicly available firmware version isn’t jailbroken yet. The good news? The newly released “iNDS” Nintendo DS emulator in town is available for free, and it’s ready right now – and it works just fine on iOS 9.0.x.
Here’s what you need to do to install it.
Step 1: Configure the source by heading to williamlcobb.com/iNDS.html and tapping Get it from Cydia.
Step 2: Cydia will launch and ask you to confirm that you want to add a new source. Do that and wait for Cydia to add the new source and refresh. You can also add the repo manually using the address shown in the shot below.
Step 3: Once Cydia has refreshed, head to the Search tab and search for “iNDS” and install the package that appears in the search results. Tap Return to Cydia when it’s done.
Step 4: Press the Home button and you’ll notice a new iNDS icon, meaning the app has been installed just fine.
Step 5: Launch the app, and that’s it. You now have a Nintendo DS emulator installed on your iPhone running iOS 9.
You’ll now need some ROMs, but you knew that already didn’t you? We can’t link them here for obvious reasons but you should be able to find them easily on the web.
Fans of the original Nintendo DS game console and associated games will feel all nostalgic at this point, and if you’re a fan of some of Nintendo’s classics, then this will tick all of your boxes. So long as you have your ROMs, that is. We’re not going to tell you where to find them, though – you’re on you’re own here.
