The Evad3rs team finally gave jailbreakers the moment they’d been waiting for by releasing the Evasi0n jailbreak on Monday, and while the general response has been positive, some users have born the brunt of one or two teething issues. Soon after the almost to-the-second countdown release of the untethered jailbreak, it emerged that some – namely those jailbreaking their iPhone – were experiencing problems with the stock Weather app, but thankfully, the Evad3rs team has come through with a swift fix via Cydia.
Earlier on, we provided a tutorial on how to fix the annoying crashing issue on the native Weather app, although it was only meant to be a stop-gap solution until an ‘official’ fix arrived via Cydia. That moment has arrived, as confirmed by a tweet from Planetbeing:
Fixes for the long reboot issue and Weather app issue are now available on Cydia with an update to the untether and uikittools.
If you’re an iPhone user and have been waiting for that fix, the process is simple:
Step 1: Fire up the Cydia app from your iPhone’s home screen.
Step 2: Tap on ‘Changes’. After a short amount of loading, you should see two new files named "evasi0n 6.0-6.1 Untether" and "UIKit Tools". These are the two you’ll need to upgrade.
Step 3: Tap on the ‘Upgrade’ button in the top, right-hand corner, and both should install with minimal fuss. A reboot may be required, but once the new packages have been installed, your Weather app should run as intended once more.
Aside from the Weather app issue, it would seem the release has played out fairly incident-free, and although the to-be-expected lack of movement from a traffic-lambasted Cydia meant installing tweaks was nigh-on impossible at those very early stages, things seem now to be reverting back to normal.
iOS 6 has certainly proven to be tricky for the devs to exploit this time around, with the familiar chase in the ongoing cat-and-mouse between Apple and the jailbreak community spanning several months from September’s iOS 6 release. However, it would seem no job is too tall for our celebrated collection of veteran developers, and after a little fanfare in the week leading up to the release, the tool finally made its long-awaited appearance.
Having jailbroken my own iPhone, I was pleasantly surprised by how advanced the jailbreaking process turned out to be with Evasi0n. The days of screens whizzing through copious amounts of code seem long gone, and the entire procedure ran almost as though it were a normal, everyday app.
If you’ve always considered jailbreaking but felt unsure about which steps you should take, I highly recommend you check out our full-length guide on how to jailbreak iOS 6.1 (with an accompanying video) which will ease you through the steps. Occasions like this – when the latest firmware is exploitable on every device – are becoming increasingly fewer and farther between, and so now is most certainly the best time to experiment.
