The Google Search app for iOS received the update to cap all updates a couple of days back when it was revealed that the company had integrated its Now service to users on the Apple operating system. As is typical with initial Google releases though, the new Google Now for iPhone feature was restricted to U.S. only, but as it does so very often, the jailbreak scene has popped up with a solution for those whose Google Now functionality was restricted.
The aptly-entitled GoogleNowEnabler tweak is available free of charge over at the ModMyi repository, and once installed, will enable Google Now within the Google Search iOS app for users outside U.S.. Naturally, installing the recently-updated app is a prerequisite to downloading the tweak, but provided you do have the iOS Search app loaded onto your home screen, you should have no problems enjoying the Google Now functionality no matter where you may reside.
Often, Google holds these features back from certain nations until they’ve been properly tested, but with Google Now having made waves on Android in its relatively short lifespan, it stands to reason that many on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch would be rather anxious to enjoy the new feature.
Google Now for iPhone: Before and After
Having downloaded the Google Search especially to test out Google Now (I normally find the Chrome browser’s omnibar does me okay for finding what I want on the Web), I have been relatively impressed with what I have experienced in my brief encounter with Google Now. Everything seems to flow rather nicely, and while it’s not yet up to the level of functionality of its cousin on Android, it’s certainly worth checking out for those that haven’t.
So there it is, folks; if you want to use the Google Now feature within Google Search, but haven’t been able to do so hitherto, this tweak unlocks all of the required doors. As aforementioned, you don’t have to part with any money for it, so head on over to the ModMyi repo and install it on your device.
Please note also, that there are no configurable settings whatsoever, and if Google later updates Search for compatibility in your country, you should simply uninstall the tweak.
