Charging a smartphone is one of those things that nobody enjoys doing, but if we want to be able to take advantage of all the wonderful things that these little bundles of magic are capable of, then it is one of those unfortunate realities that we need to plug them in or place them on a charging pad at least once a day, sometimes more.
While Apple and other companies do appear to be working on truly wireless charging that will allow phones to charge just when in the same room as a power source, we aren’t quite there yet.
When it comes to the iPhone, battery life isn’t actually that bad generally, but you do still need to keep that battery topped up. That means plugging it into a Lightning cable, and every time you do that, you will no doubt have noticed that your iPhone makes a little sound. It’s a kind of chime that lets you know that your smartphone is now plugged in and receiving power.
There are, however, times when that chime is annoying or downright intrusive, but unfortunately, Apple does not give us the option of turning it off. There is actually a way of charging your iPhone without that sound ever playing though, and while it is far from ideal, this little trick does indeed work. Best of all, it does not require any jailbreak to work.
If you don’t want to hear that familiar chime the next time you plug your iPhone into a Lightning cable to charge it, here is what you need to do:
Step 1: Tap the Home or sleep/wake button to turn your iPhone’s screen on.
Step 2: Swipe from right to left to launch the Camera app from the Lock screen.
Step 3: Plug your Lightning cable in. There will be no chime played when you do this with the Camera app open.
Step 4: Tap the Home or sleep/wake button to exit the camera and lock your iPhone again while it is still charging.
And that’s all there is to it! Ingenious, we are sure you will agree.
