For whatever reason, it may be that you wish to make a call from your iPhone, but don’t wish to divulge your phone number. Some of you will surely be familiar with the steps involved in this process of obscuring your caller ID, but for those who aren’t, we’ve got a little step-by-step tutorial below.
When surveying the potential situations in which deactivating caller ID may be useful, making prank calls almost always springs to mind. Sure, if you’re a bit of a practical joker and wish to have a laugh at somebody’s expense, then this is one instance where the native iOS feature comes in handy. But if, for example, you wish to make an enquiry with a company that you’re not familiar with or sure about, and don’t want to risk the chance of your digits being added to a spam calling list, then it’s also useful to be able to hide your number when making contact.
The Apple iPhone is jam-packed with small, potentially useful features that not everybody may be aware of. If you’ve long since known how to veil your caller ID from prying eyes, then you won’t need to check out the guide we’ve posted below. But if this is all news to you, then take a couple of minutes to read through and familiarize yourself with the steps.
Luckily, this guide doesn’t require a jailbreak, and in fact, the only prerequisite is that you’re in ownership of an iPhone.
So, without further ado, let’s get to it.
Step 1. First and foremost, you’ll want to fire up the Settings app from your iPhone’s home page.
Step 2: Scroll down the Settings menu until you find Phone, which also has the phone icon logo alongside it.
Step 3: Next, select the Show My Caller ID option. From here, all you need to do is hit the small toggle, and your caller ID will not be shown once you make any outgoing calls.
After following these simple steps, people you call will see a pop-up message of “Unknown” or “Blocked” or similar, depending on their own set-up. Bear in mind, though, that by and large, some folks are less inclined to pick up on a caller that doesn’t wish to reveal themselves.
