Now that you’re wearing your Apple Watch on your wrist, somewhere down the road, the wearable is bound to accumulate dust and sweat. Here’s what you need to know about before you decide you need to clean your Apple Watch to keep it in pristine shape.
Apple has recently released a complete guide on how to clean its new wearable, and even provided tips on how to wear it if you have sensitive skin. The Cupertino company wants you to understand the materials that go into the different Apple Watch models, including the different bands as well. Needless to say, it’s pretty clear what material is being used in the cases of all three Apple Watch models, but if you didn’t know that, the Apple Watch Sport is aluminum based, Apple Watch is made of stainless steel, and the Edition variant is constructed of 18-karat gold. Keeping those materials in mind, may I advise you just use a soft lint-free nonabrasive cloth, maybe damped with fresh water if you really have to.
Actually, that is what Apple will be suggesting throughout its own guide as well, including instructions on how not to soak leather straps in water since, they’re not “waterproof.” Point is, don’t use any alcohol based substances for cleaning up the watch, and a bit of water and soft cloth should do the job just fine. The materials, however have been listed in complete detail such as alloy numbers and more, something the average user will most likely not care for, but for someone who is planning for some next-level wash, this is important information. Apple also tells you how to clean the Digital Crown if it’s not behaving, an issue that has been reported by a few users.
There have also been report of the Apple Watch causing some rashes on consumers’ wrists, and it still remains unclear what the reason is, with some people blaming the under-side of the Apple Watch, while some blame the nickel used in the Sport band. To address this issue, the Mac maker has listed a few tips for avoiding such skin irritation or rashes while wearing the Apple Watch.
