HomePod With Display Runs In To Software Issues, Launch Delayed Till Late 2025

Apple’s much-anticipated HomePod with a display is facing yet another delay, according to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Originally expected to debut in the first half of 2024, the launch has now been pushed back to Q3 2025 due to slower-than-expected progress on software development.

Kuo notes that the production timeline has shifted multiple times. Initially slated for 2024, it was postponed to early 2025 and now delayed further. The challenge here seems to be getting the software right. This new HomePod is rumored to feature a 6-7 inch display, an A18 processor, and integration with Apple Intelligence, positioning it as a smart home hub rather than just a speaker.

Speculation about a display-equipped HomePod started back in 2022 with early rumors suggesting it could be a speaker housing a magnetic docking plate for an iPad. While those specifics remain unclear, it’s evident that Apple is experimenting with ways to expand the HomePod’s role in the smart home ecosystem.

Kuo hints that this device represents a shift in Apple’s strategy, transforming the HomePod into a central smart home controller rather than just a premium audio device. Whether this will involve multiple form factors or a single versatile product remains to be seen.

With production now expected to ramp up after WWDC 2025, Apple fans will have to wait a bit longer to what this next-gen HomePod brings to the table.
