A new report sheds light on the likely reason why Apple AirPods release date has been delayed beyond its original launch schedule of October 2016. Here are the details.
If you’ve been anxiously waiting for Apple to drop AirPods into the market, you’re probably already well aware that the wireless earphones launch, which was due for October, has been effectively delayed. We’re now almost into the third week of December and Apple has still not offered us an official explanation on the looming “why?” question.
As has happened plenty of times, if Apple remains mum about a service or product that fans are looking forward to, information regarding it ultimately crawls onto the web from insider sources. In this case as The Wall Street Journal tells us, it appears as if the company had bitten off more than it could chew.
According to the sources familiar with AirPods development, Apple is looking to address the issue of losing one of the earpiece, or what happens when the battery in one earpiece dies out?
A person familiar with the development of the AirPods said the trouble appears to stem from Apple’s effort to chart a new path for wireless headphones. In most other wireless headphones, only one earpiece receives a signal from the phone via wireless Bluetooth technology; it then transmits the signal to the other earpiece.
The source has also pointed out that both the AirPods earpieces receive signals independently to cut down on distortion, but the engineering team is working on making sure that these signals are received by the earpieces at the same time.
Apple had plenty of fans sold on the whole AirPods experience that awaited iPhone 7/7 Plus, and even older iPhone users, but a delay after delay, especially with the Holiday season almost here, is prompting some users to scratch the contraption of their Christmas wishlist.
Following the initial push-back of the launch date, we heard rumors that the AirPods could land in stores in the mid of November, which of course never happened. Then one of the largest online retailer and Apple reseller in Czech Republic had the wireless earphones listed for December, that of course also never materialized. There has also been an alleged email of Tim Cook floating around where the Apple CEO has replied back to a customer on query about expected release date of AirPods, by saying “I anticipate we will begin to ship over the next few weeks.”
With Christmas only two weeks away now, even that looks very unlikely to happen now.
