Apple finally came through with its inaugural smartwatch effort earlier this week, and although we were impressed by the traditional charm of devices like the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R, it’s fair to say that the reaction to Apple’s new line up has been positive. As fans and commentators queue up to heap praise on Apple Watch, one expert has delivered an opinion from a more authoritative angle. As much as we enjoy considering the thoughts of those with great knowledge of Apple et al, the new Watch series has seen the Cupertino giant thrust into a market dominated by Rolex, Casio and a host of others, and one source familiar with the traditional watch market has just posted his thoughts on Apple Watch.
Benjamin Clymer, who’s the executive director of an acclaimed watch enthusiast site, believes that Apple has made a number of key considerations in its development of Apple Watch, and as such, is very well placed to take the industry by storm.
In his assessment, Clymer concludes that “Apple got more details right on their watch than the vast majority of Swiss and Asian brands do with similarly priced watches, and those details add up to a really impressive piece of design.”
But Clymer does stop at aesthetics. Many believe that the software is also nicely refined and functional, ready to cope with what Google has prepped with Android Wear, but given that we have only seen Apple’s own demonstrations for now, it makes sense for Clymer to sit on the fence in this regard.
He is of the opinion that smartwatches are still bereft in certain areas, but believes that Apple’s attention to detail gives its Watch the edge ahead of competitors.
Whether Clymer is correct about Apple Watch is a matter for consumers to determine by actually going out and making the purchase. At present, we’re still quite a while from the device’s release, let alone being able to cast aspersions on which smartwatch or ecosystem will reign supreme.
With that said, Apple Watch has arguably generated just as much hype as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and if nothing else, it will enjoy substantial early sales.
