Ever since Google launched its own social network in the form of Google+, comparisons have been made left and right with the current king of the space, Facebook. Now that the search giant has announced that its fledgling network has reached the 100 million user milestone, those comparisons are once again being made.
With Facebook’s 800 million users, it is clear that Google has some way to go before it can begin to call itself a real competitor to Facebook, but few can argue that this is not a reasonable start for the same company that brought us the woeful Google Wave. Could the search giant finally be onto something?
To help drive the point home and illustrate that Google+ could prove to be a wise move for those currently living inside Google’s ecosystem, a handy dandy infographic has shown up. Pointing how Google+ can integrate with other Google apps, the infographic offers up twenty reasons to switch from Facebook to Google’s offering.
The main reason to consider making to jump from the incumbent to Google’s social network has to be its integration with other web apps that are part of Google’s stable. With Gmail, Picassa and Google Drive all featuring integration for Google+, anyone who lives their life under Google’s umbrella could do worse than to seriously consider making to move. Of course, getting all your friends to do the same is not an easy feat, by any imagination.
Google’s latest Google+ app also has to be a real plus (pardon the pun!) for the service. Few can argue against the beauty of the iOS Google+ app in particular, though whether it is beauty over function is something of a hot button topic across the internet. Our view is that it makes us want to use the service more, which has to be a good thing.
Other reasons to switch, at least according to the inforgraphic in question, include the video chat feature called Hangouts, as well as better browser integration and easier profile setup. We suggest you check the infographic out for yourselves and then make your own minds up.
The real truth is a stark one – Google can make Google+ as great as it wants, but until everyone’s non-techy friends and family move over from Facebook, then the game is already lost.
