Gurman Says Apple Is Already Testing USB-C For The iPhone 15

Apple could be getting closer to shipping a USB-C iPhone, according to reports. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously suggested that Apple would move to USB-C with next year’s iPhone 15 — now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has backed that up with a report of his own.

According to Gurman, Apple is already testing versions of the iPhone with USB-C connectivity.

What’s more, the company is also thought to be looking at some sort of adapter that would allow people to use Lightning accessories with such a device.

In addition to testing models with a USB-C port in recent months, Apple is working on an adapter that would let future iPhones work with accessories designed for the current Lightning connector, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.

With European regulations increasingly likely to require that the iPhone use USB-C rather than lightning, the move is one that Apple seems set to make sooner rather than later. It already uses USB-C on the majority of the iPad lineup and having everything use the same cable and connector makes plenty of sense. Now, it looks like it’s going to happen next year.

Those buying an iPhone 14 device this year will have to make do with Lightning, it seems, while MagSafe is also set to be included for future launches, too.
