Apple is now heavily rumored to be making the Apple Watch Series 7 in both 41mm and 45mm versions, meaning the devices will have screens 1mm bigger than the older models.
As a result, Apple is reportedly also bringing new versions of some existing Apple Watch faces to the wearable in an attempt to make better use of that larger screen.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Apple is making new versions of its watch faces so as to avoid them looking strange on the larger screens.
This year’s watches will come in 41-millimeter and 45-millimeter sizes, up from 40 and 44 millimeters. I’m told that Apple will bundle multiple new watch faces to take advantage of the bigger screen, including an updated Infograph Modular face. This will be the second time in the Apple Watch’s history that the company has increased the display size, following the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2017.
Predictably, it appears that the new, larger watch faces will only be made available to those wearing the new Apple Watch Series 7 — they won’t be made available to anyone who wants to use them on older wearables, including the current Apple Watch Series 6.
The new Apple Watch is also set to get a new look, with slab-edged sides and a flatter display making the wearable look unlike any Apple Watch that has been available to date. We expect Apple to announce the Apple Watch Series 7 within the next few weeks.
