If a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is anything to go by, Apple is planning to come out with new smart glasses product sometime in 2027. This product will apparently be more similar to Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.
Apart from this, the company is also said to be working with new AirPods with cameras for release in same 2027 timeframe. Both, the camera-equipped AirPods and the aforementioned smart glasses, will make use of all the billions of dollars that Apple poured into R&D for Vision Pro and bring it together with visual intelligence capabilities in these new form factors which will be easier to wear and use on day-to-day bases compared to Vision Pro.
As for what will happen to Apple’s AR/VR headset strategy, Gurman reports that Apple is working on a cheaper non-Pro model of Vision Pro which will cost around $2,000 and will release sometime next year in 2025.
This rumored Apple Vision headset will be a lower-end counterpart to $3,500 Vision Pro headset and is likely to cut down on price by using lower-end processor, lower resolution displays, cheaper materials and will also do away with frontal EyeSight display.
As for next-gen Vision Pro headset, Gurman reports that Apple is working on Vision Pro 2 for release in 2026 and it will likely come pack with faster processor, among other upgrades here and there.
What all of this means is that Apple is doubling down on its VR/AR strategy by expanding it into even more form factors. The next few years will certainly be exciting if you’re a believer in Vision Pro!
