Google’s Pixel Fold Tipped For May Unveiling And June Release With A Huge Price Tag

With Apple continuing to refuse to enter the foldable fray the folks at Google have no such qualms. The Mountain View company is said to be ready to unveil its Pixel Fold phone for the first time, with the May 10 Google I/O event set to be the big day.

The phone, which has been heavily leaked, has now been detailed by a CNBC report citing internal Google documents. Those documents claim that the phone will not be available to buy until June, with the price set at around $1,700.

While that might sound like a lot, it’s comparable to other high-end foldable phones including the one it will no doubt be most closely compared to — the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The phone itself is expected to have a 7.6-inch foldable display on the inside while the outer display will come in at 5.8 inches.

Google plans to market the Pixel Fold as water-resistant and pocket-sized, with an outside screen that measures 5.8 inches across, according to the documents. Photos viewed by CNBC show that the phone will open like a book to reveal a small tablet-sized 7.6-inch screen, the same size as the display on Samsung’s competitor. It weighs 10oz, slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it has a larger battery that Google says will last for 24 hours, or up to 72 hours in a low power mode.

On the inside the phone will have the same Tensor G2 chip that currently powers the existing Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. That’s also the phone that we expect to power the Pixel 7a when it is announced at the same Google I/O event.

That event is also expected to see the Pixel Tablet detailed, too.
