Fans of Android who have been patiently waiting for Google to announce some hard details on their next Nexus smartphone could be in for some good news, as the latest speculation is suggesting that we could be seeing some moves from the company during the month of October. The chatter doesn’t extend as far as specifying whether or not Google will treat us to an announcement of the purported device, or go one step ahead and actually launch the product the next month, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
The interest surrounding the next Google Nexus device isn’t exactly a secret, and over the last few months we have had lots of small indications of its potential existence, all of which have formed small parts of a larger puzzle. Multiple User Agent Profile leaks have made reference to the I9260 model number, with the same internal Samsung reference showing up on a document attached to leaked photographs that appeared on the Picasa photo network. The potential October announcement or release date seems to cement the pieces of the puzzle together.
The potential release of a new version of Android alongside the new Nexus handset is also being discussed, and it looks as though if Google is planning to push out a point update over Android Jelly Bean rather than pushing the boat and selling the new Nexus device to market with a whole new major Android update. The speculation is likely to be enough to make those individuals who are in the market for a new Android handset hold off for a few weeks and see what comes to fruition.
There are a number of possible outcomes for this one, and even though the current Galaxy Nexus device hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, but it is coming up to its first anniversary. The I9260 model number that we have seen thrown out in various leaks is an internal Samsung product identifier, but it is also possible that Google will open the Nexus program up to additional manufacturers, a move that could see a release in the next month or so of an HTC or Motorola device.
