Google Releases Statement On Apple Vs. Samsung Verdict

With Apple believed to be waging war on Android, the move to ban some Samsung phones from sale in the United States could be seen as an attack on Google, as much as Samsung. As Google is quick to point out though, most of Apple's claims simply do not relate to the core of the Android mobile OS.

Google also notes that the court of appeals will be left to decide on the validity of Apple's patent claims and that several are in fact set to be looked into by the United States Patent office.

The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims. Most of these don't relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office. The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don't want anything to limit that.

Google is understandably trying to distance itself from proceedings as much as possible, while also trying its best to avoid appearing weak. Google knows that Apple is unlikely to go after it directly, at least for now, though Apple has made few bones about the fact it is no fan of Google's foray into the world of mobile.

We're sure Google will be watching the rest of the Apple vs. Samsung situation as closely as the rest of us!

Google has released a public statement in which it tackles the recent legal goings on between both Apple, and the largest Android phone maker, Samsung. While both Samsung and Apple were keen to release statements following the court’s decision to order the Korean firm to pay over one billion dollars to the iPhone maker. The whole thing revolves around Samsung’s use of technology which infringes upon Apple’s patents, and with Android beating at the heart of Samsung’s smartphones, many wondered what Google would have to say about the matter.

The search giant and mobile mover has now waded into the spat between Apple and Samsung, though it stops short of being quite so forthright as some would have hoped.
