Apart from the myriad of changes that accompanied Android KitKat, one of its highlighting feature was the Google Now Launcher, which had a unique look and feel from all app launchers we’ve seen from Google to date. Granted, it’s a complete stock offering, and its bare minimum features assure that everything is there when needed without being hungry on resources. But why should only KitKat users cherish all the benefits of it? Well that’s about to change, as from today, Google’s app launcher is now compatible with devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and up, bringing its support to millions of devices worldwide.
There are a ton of reasons why you should ditch your current app launcher for Google’s offering. First, it comes from Google itself, therefore you just can’t doubt its compatibility and stability. Secondly, it’s free, and even if you don’t manage to fall in love with it, then there’s no harm in simply trying it out.
As the name of the launcher implies, the main focus is on Google Now whenever you’re strolling around on your home screen. A simple swipe to the right will bring up your cards, and you can swipe to dismiss them or interact with them in any matter you see fit.
Apart from its lightweight prowess, Google Now Launcher does come with a small cost, and it’s something which might put some users off: the lack of customization. Believe it or not, from the moment you install the launcher, you’ll be baffled by the fact that there are no customization options whatsoever. You have to accept everything at face value.
Despite its mere shortcomings, we are big fans of it. It’s simple, easy to navigate through, it’s super light, and blends in well with the overall look and feel of Android.
We highly recommend that you give it a shot before you give it a thumbs down, or up maybe. Who knows it might just float your boat, like it did for us!
Simply download from the link which we’ve embedded below. And also keep in mind: if you’re running anything below Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, then your device is out of the picture in terms of support.
We’ve warned you.
