Google has canceled its Glass Enterprise Edition AR glasses, the company has confirmed.
Updated support documents spotted by 9to5Google show that support for the headset will end on September 15, but The Verge has been told by Google that it is no longer selling the product anymore.
However, while the Google Glass Enterprise Edition headsets are no longer sold, and support will end in six months, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the product won’t function after that point.
According to the company, the devices should still work after that date, but it’s not planning on releasing any software updates. The support cutoff also extends to the built-in Meet app and repair service. “The app may stop working at any time after September 15, 2023,” warns Google’s support page, before saying that “Google will continue to replace devices under the existing process” until that date.
This move means that Google Glass is now completely dead after the original retail version was also canceled previously. Glass Enterprise Edition was sold to businesses that needed to give people a way to stay hands-free but still have access to information.
Google also says that developers can continue to work on apps for the platform, suggesting businesses who use their own apps should be able to continue as usual.
