Users wishing to get a free 2GB of Google Drive storage can do exactly that by carrying out a Google account security check as part of Safer Internet Day 2016.
The security check, which is aimed at ensuring a user’s Google account is nice and secure so as to stop nasty people from getting access to it, takes only a few minutes and is probably a worthwhile exercise even without the free storage to sweeten the deal.
That sweetener, only available after the security check has been completed, gives users a free 2GB chunk of Google Drive space to do with as they please. If all this is sounding eerily familiar, it’s because Google offered the exact same deal last year, and those who managed to get some free Google Drive storage twelve months ago can follow the process once more in order to get an additional 2GB. Some companies would make his a one time only deal, but not Google. Good on them, we say.
Speaking of last year, at that point, we covered the steps that you need to follow in order to get your hands on all that lovely free Google Drive storage, so be sure to check that post out for the ins and outs of what you need to do to get your free stuff. It’s a simple affair involving you looking through your recovery information, connected devices and account permissions, and shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes.
It’s important to remember the reason behind all this – Safer Internet Day. With more and more of our data appearing online, especially in services such as Google Drive, making sure we have strong passwords and things like two-factor authentication enabled whenever possible are two ways we can keep our data more safe. It may not be 100% safe, but every little bit helps.
Head on over to Google’s security checkup page to ensure your account’s security, and to get your hands on the Safer Internet Day incentive.
