The Google Search app for iOS has just been bumped to v.4.0.0, and even though it’s not quite the major update that the version number perhaps implies, the Big G has still packed quite a few significant tweaks into this latest release. Google’s Now service operates in a much smarter fashion, offering the ability to link passages of speech without continual prompting through the “OK Google” command, and overall, the Search app is just more enjoyable to use.
Google Now is, in many ways, Google’s own answer to Siri, and whilst those on iOS don’t get to enjoy as in-depth an experience as their Android brethren, the Search app still provides a powerful platform from which iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users can quickly source information through search and voice commands.
After updating the app, Google Now will have a better grasp of subsequent questions asked, keeping in context with something you might previously have said. For example, if you initiated the feature through the “OK Google” command and then asked for cinema ticket times, you could then follow up right away with a further question like “are there any available for next week?” You wouldn’t need to ask again with a ‘full’ question, since Google Now has an idea of your subject matter.
The update in general sees Google Now really come into its own, offering tailored info based upon your likes and searches, and with cricket sports cards now a part of the deal, fans of the highly-popular sport can keep up-to-date with live scores and info to matter where they happen to be.
It has taken a while for some of these changes to come into effect on iOS, particularly the cricket cards, which hit Android a number of weeks back, but nonetheless, it’s good to see Google offering a healthy update to those traitors users on rival Apple’s mobile OS.
