Having announced a brand new Gmail inbox for Android, iPhone and the Web a few days back, Google has kept its promise and started rolling out the revamped Gmail app for Android. More details and APK download link can be found right after the jump.
The new Gmail app for Android version 4.5 is a stunner, and focuses deeply on your email inbox and does away with clutter. As you’d expect, Gmail for Android now takes full advantage of the category / tab interface, making painful navigation through your inbox a thing of the past.
Thanks to its tabbed interface, you now have the option to filter your emails in a much more efficient manner. For example, your emails from your high-priority contacts, social networks, work etc. will now land in a dedicated tab in your inbox.
Pull-to-refresh is now a part of the new Gmail for Android update. Yes, that clearly means that you can now give up tapping on that refresh button, and instead pull down to refresh your inbox. Some might not find this feature really stunning, but for those who follow the pull-to-refresh method as a cult, it’s a complete winner.
With a ton of changes under the hood, the update is a must-have if you’re a frequent Gmail user on mobile; Android, to be more specific in this case. If you want the Gmail for Android update right now, then simply launch the Play Store app on your Android device and the update should show up for you. If, for some reason, you don’t see the update, then don’t be alarmed, the rollout process is underway and it should hit your device in the coming days, or maybe a week or two. We’ve linked the Gmail app directly at the foot of this post, in case, you’re one of the lazy ones who don’t want to go through the hassle of launching the Play Store and searching for the update.
All these great features will also make their way onto the iPhone in the coming days, and we will, of course, update you whenever it is released, so stay tuned for that. if you’re a frequent Gmail user on the Web, then be sure to check out our guide on how to enable the new tabbed Gmail inbox right now.
