Given that the iPhone 5s and 5c launched in early September of last year before releasing later on in the month, it has been widely presumed that the next flagship – dubbed the “iPhone 6” for obvious reasons – will follow suit. However, new information has come to light indicating that Apple’s next major smartphone release could arrive slightly earlier, with a new, August release bracket having been offered.
The reports, which originate from Taiwan, serve as welcome news for those who cannot wait to get their hands on Apple’s next major release, which is set to include a 4.7-inch display. Moreover, supply chain sources are also suggesting that the larger, 5.5-inch variant of the iPhone 6 will arrive a month later in September, which is a great deal sooner than the previous notion that the phablet model would be pushed all the way back to December time.
For a long while, it has been reckoned that Apple’s iPhone 6 will offer a radical redesign, with a curved rear shell akin to the iPad Air / iPod touch product lines. More recently, it was suggested that the 5.5-inch edition would be subject to severe delays thanks to its ultra-thin, tailor-made battery, and such was the severity of this apparent issue that the more sizeable iPhone 6 might not see the light of day in 2014.
But these new tidbits tell an interesting counter-story, and given the amount of leaks we’ve seen recently in the form of mock-ups and dummies, it’s certainly plausible that Apple’s forthcoming handset may be ready in just three months’ time. Only yesterday, notorious leaker Sonny Dickson showcased dummy of the 4.7-inch model that, for the first time, indicated that the device may also include a curved display, and with a repositioned power button and some tweaks to the volume rocker, we’re anticipating noticeable alterations when the final design is unveiled by Apple.
It will be intriguing to see what the general consumer response will be to two new, larger iPhones. Analysts have speculated that it could spark a rush of upgrades among current iPhone owners, while Android users will jump ship in their droves, but with many purists still happy with the iPhone’s distinctively smaller form factor, there’ll surely be some kind of backlash amid the excitement.
