Want iPhone 7 Plus exclusive Portrait mode feature on iPhone 7 or older unsupported devices? Here’s how you can!
Do you own an iPhone 5s or newer? If you’re an iPhone owner, then chances are the answer to that question is a “yes” and if that is accurate, then we have some very good news for you indeed; you may not need a fancy, shiny new iPhone 7 Plus in order to get the impressive depth of field bokeh effect that the new phone’s dual-lens camera system is capable of.
Of course, the iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.1 uses its newfangled cameras in order to create that wonderful bokeh effect that folks with high-end cameras take for granted, but not everyone likes what Apple’s Portrait mode can produce. Furthermore, this is a feature that is still in beta, meaning it isn’t yet ready to be used by everyone. There’s a gap in the market for a good way of adding bokeh to a photo without having to buy a brand new dual-lens capable smartphone first.
That gap may now be filled by FabFocus, a new app available to download now that, it claims, can take photos and add that lovely, blurry bokeh effect to the image using some software magic.
We’ve seen sample images, and they look super-impressive. What’s perhaps more surprising, and indeed commendable, is that FabFocus can work on any iPhone that is from the iPhone 5s era and newer. That covers a lot of the iPhones out there, meaning many more people can take advantage of the feature than those who are using the Portrait mode on an iPhone 7 Plus.
Using advanced facial recognition A.I., FabFocus detects people in the foreground and automatically blurs what it distinguishes as the background. It’s that easy to take an amazing portrait with a professional depth of field effect.
FabFocus for iOS costs $1.99, and can be downloaded right now from the App Store.
