Get iBooks-Like Page Styled Animations System-Wide On iPhone With PagePusher [Cydia Tweak]

PagePusher_iPhone

This tweak was developed by Ryan Petrich, an Edmonton, Canada-based developer, as part of Tweak Week, a series of daily open-source tweak releases. Ryan has worked on several other iOS tweaks in the past, as well as full-fledged apps, including Overboard, which allows users to look at all their home screens at a glance; Display Recorder, a  screen recorder for iOS that outputs high-quality video; and DisplayOut, which allows users to mirror their iDevice screen onto projectors larger monitors using Apple's own HDMI, VGA, Component or Composite adapters.

If you're looking for a time saver, or at least a performance boost, this is not it. The page turning effect, in my view, is significantly more annoying and less elegant than the standard sliding effect. It could also be a significant performance drag on older devices, although that isn't confirmed shouldn't be perceptible on newer devices. Some have also reported that it can break some custom Apps, such as biteSMS, a custom SMS app with extra features, such as scheduled messages, and lower rates; although most apps seem to work fine.

In order to install PagePusher, you need to add Petrich's repository http://rpetri.ch/repo, or wait until it gets posted on the BigBoss repository, which should be soon. There's no configuration necessary and the tweak will immediately take effect after it's installed.

Last but not least, it’s important to note that this tweak will require you to jailbreak your phone first, since, just like anything outside the official App Store, it’s not approved by Apple. It’s recommended that you have basic skills on how to restore your device, in case something goes wrong.

You can follow our step by step guide to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch on iOS 4.3.1 with Redsn0w, PwnageTool 4.3 (untethered |tethered) on Mac, or with Sn0wbreeze on Windows, or on iOS 4.3.2 with Redsn0w, PwnageTool 4.3 (tethered), or with Sn0wbreeze on Windows, or on iOS 4.3.3 using Redsn0w, PwnageTool and Sn0wbreeze.

Is this a performance drag or a sweet-looking addition? That's up to you.

By default, iOS uses fairly minimalistic sliding transitions when moving back and forth between panels in many applications, including the built-in System Preferences App. PagePusher replaces that with a page-turning effect, which you may either find beautiful or incredibly annoying.
