The huge announcement season is still underway, with the September and October months continuing to yield yet more announcements. We still have new iPads and perhaps new Macs to arrive next week, but right now, all of the talk has momentarily turned to Samsung. The Android phone maker is expected to announce its Galaxy S10 in early 2019, and according to Bloomberg, there could be some changes afoot.
Bloomberg’s report has a few notable points that are worth considering, not least the idea that there will be three different versions of the phone with one of those being a device aimed at cutting costs, making it a more affordable option akin to the iPhone XR.
While the cheaper variant of the phone will be missing some of the bells and whistles of the more costly variants, those with deeper pockets can look forward to an in-screen fingerprint sensor and a new camera module that will apparently be hidden beneath the display while still remaining visible. That, according to Bloomberg, will allow Samsung to make bezels even smaller, fitting a similar 5.8-inch display to the Galaxy S9 into a smaller body.
Beyond that, Bloomberg’s report says we can expect Samsung to finally ditch the headphone jack as well as incorporate a 5G radio for super fast cellular speeds in countries, and on carriers that support such things. While the device is still in development, it will apparently ship with Android 9 Pie although by the time it comes out, Google will already be edging closer to the first developer preview releases of Android 10.
This all comes weeks after Google announced and released the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the current cream of the Android phone crop.
