There is a huge amount of focus on smartphone batteries right now, with Apple having to apologize for slowing down older iPhones with poorly performing batteries inside them.
So far, the likes of Samsung have been sat watching the mess unfold from afar, but now the South Korean company has its own problems to contend with. According to a growing number of reports, users are finding that their Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 phones are refusing to charge, leaving them unusable.
According to a report by the folks over at Android Authority, the issue presents itself when a phone’s battery falls to the 0% mark and switches itself off as a result. At this point, simply plugging the phone in should restore service as usual, but this appears to not be the case in some situations with no LED charging light activated and no charge administered.
My wife’s Note 8 turned off today and won’t turn back on,” reads one such complaint. “Tried the soft reset and safe mode button pushes and it won’t turn on. When it’s plugged in, the red light doesn’t turn on.”
Another adds: “I’ve tried 3 different power cables and cords but nothing. I charged overnight and still nothing. Completely dead.”
A complaint from another user says: “Won’t charge with a cable. Even tried a wireless charger. The blue light [illuminates] on the charger. But Phone won’t turn on.”
Phones that have been impacted by this appear to have been bought via a range of different outlets so no pattern has been identified as yet, but thankfully, Samsung is simply telling people to return their phones for a replacement under warranty. Let’s not forget, Samsung has plenty of experience with battery-related warranty replacements, after all.
