It’s well known that Samsung has a pretty sizeable budget for purpose of marketing and advertising, and with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch having recently been announced and subsequently released worldwide, the Korean outfit will doubtlessly be putting some of that vast wad to good use. The ball is already rolling with the first major ad for these two major releases, and in a break from convention, features some strange, borderline creepy puppets. Check it out after the break!
Often, Samsung will go for a pop at the iPhone, or Apple in general, and with the iPhone 5s and 5c having only been released towards the latter stages of last month, the stage was almost perfectly set for the other half of the so-called Big Two to pipe up and pick holes in it. Then again, with Apple having broken its own, and any of Samsung’s first weekend sales figures by a considerable distance, perhaps keeping quiet about a company that can’t make devices quickly enough to meet the demand will go down considerably better.
With the news today that Samsung has been rigging the Note 3 to over-perform at certain times in order to yield favorable benchmark scores, the company’s flagship phablet could do with a pick-me-up, and if you’re a fan of dancing puppets, then this ad will almost certainly appeal to you.
Naturally, the ad focuses almost squarely on the Note 3, with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch ad-libbing as something of an afterthought. Then again, with an unlocked version of the new Note retailing at more than double the price of the Gear, and with the wearable tech also being an untried, yet-to-be-established product, it stands to reason that Samsung would want to push the smartphone primarily.
Whether you’re into puppets or not, the new ad campaign is certainly a tad on the strange side. Then again, the company is no stranger to baffling and often ghastly advertising strategies. It wasn’t so long ago that we were treated to the Samsung Style rendition of the popular hit by singer PSY, and upon recalling that very cringeworthy clip, any notion of negativity attached to what is seen below can be largely overlooked:
The TV ad was creepy right? Indeed it was.
